A Midwinter's Midsummer

Sunday night, we completed the grande finale of a co-op my friend and I have been doing with our kids this fall.

She worked on math and geography with the boys, and I did a little introduction to Shakespeare with the 'big' girls. For our production, we decided to try "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Well, with only 4 players (myself included), it was a bit challenging to cover all the parts, even with a modified script. Each of us were at least 2 characters. Our costumer (one of the girls), was very clever, so with a quick switcheroo 'backstage' (behind some boxes covered with sheets in our basement), we were able to go from magical fairy to mere mortal in only a few seconds.

Younger siblings were surprisingly cooperative, and parents and a grandparent filled out the audience at our makeshift stage in the basement. There are definitely benefits to having a plethera of unopened boxes in an unfinished basement.

I am kicking myself for forgetting to take pictures and video. The girls did a great job of memorizing all their lines and really becoming engaged in the whole project. They're already lobbying to take on "Romeo and Juliet" for their next performance.

Add this to my list of reasons to love homeschooling.
