Material Boy

Sometimes I sing Lucy and Victor a lullaby to help them fall asleep at night. Usually, it's either "All the Pretty Horses" or "Hush Little Baby, Don't Say a Word."

Last night, Victor's request was, "Mom, can you sing the one about buying stuff?"

weekend in cleveland

We spent the weekend in Cleveland for our godson's first communion.

While we were there, we watched the launching of a hot air balloon race.

The sky was clear, the air was warm, and the kids had a great time watching this colorful event.

The prize for 'most excited' about this whole thing was our resident 1.5-year-old. She was perfectly delighted by the whole affair.

Sound bytes

All this morning...

Victor: "That's just the way life is, Lucy."

Lucy: "Mom, the baby just ate a pencil."

Me: "Why is there a pretzel stick lodged in my shirt?"

Victor: "mom, instead of washing my hands, I washed the bathroom sink for you. I used water, soap, a cloth and a wipey. Those were all of my tools. Sure did take me a long time."

Baby Faith

This is one of the most beautiful stories I've read in a long time. It's from the blog of a young mother whose baby was born with anencephaly. Click here for the post. Have a blessed day.

Free Dog....

...comes with one year supply of dog food. New owner must be willing to expend endless energy on running, playing and snuggling with dog. Dog prefers people food and will sometimes refuse dog food, especially after a day of being fed from the table by a certain one-year-old from her high chair. Dog has a tendency to chew things, a habit which current owner thought was (finally!) limited to toys left out in the yard, but since last night includes wood trim in the house after doggie got freaked out by the sound of the ice maker. Current owner not very happy with doggie. This loveable but pain-in-the-you-know-what doggie either needs a new home soon or a brain transplant. Donations for this procedure currently being accepted.

Teresa

You know how certain people in the world just have a gift for making others happy? Well, I had a good friend named Teresa, and she was one of those.

When we first moved here, I attended a Moms' Night Out for our local Catholic homeschooling group. She was one of the first people who introduced herself to me. That she could light up a room is a complete understatement. She was beautiful, stylish, FUNNY, and had a vibrant relationship with Jesus Christ that she was willing to share with absolutely anyone. She could get away with cracking a joke about just about anything.

For approximately 5 years, she battled cancer. It started in the breast and spread, spread, spread... She kept on fighting, praying, and trusting God. She inspired all around her to do the same.

Late last night, we got a call from a friend letting us know that Teresa had died earlier in the evening.

Please pray for the repose of her soul as well as for her husband, 4 young children, and her extended family. She will be missed terribly.

If you could fly, where would you go?

This evening, my conversation with Lucy and Victor turned to "what ifs." What if God made people nocturnal? What if dogs could talk? And, finally, what if we could fly?

The thought of flying led to a lively discussion about the potential destinations we could reach if that were possible. I immediately thought of soaring over mountain ranges, through the clouds, and out of traffic jams...

Victor's goal? "I could get on Daddy's shoulders without having to climb up the chair when he's doing email!"

And Lucy's? "I could get to the cookie jar!"

Interesting...
