actually visited our tiny parish in Arcola. They had been in
Canada for the Eucaristic Congress and took a minor detour
to visit little St. Patrick's. Amazing!!!
a priest, and nine years later was named Bishop. So, he never
served at the parish level. As result, he explained, he hasn't had
the opportunity to perform many baptisms. His joy while
administering the sacrament to this lucky little baby was obvious.
Get this: the baby's name is Sophia which was Cardinal Toppo's
mother's name. How sweet.
It's a village, at most, outside an average midwestern city, on the
opposite side of the globe from these men's homeland. Their
visit stirred up serious excitement in our community.
The dear Cardinal explained that Bishop Felix asked him to come
to Indiana with him, and he said, "OK." (As if he didn't have
anything better to do!) What a treat and blessing. He even let
Felicity chew on his crucifix. The picture above shows a group
of parish kids presenting them with flowers. Ours are in the mix
somewhere...
